WSC’s Wolf wins national recognition for marketing materials
Posted: Apr 06 2015
Williston, N.D., April 6th-Jenny Wolf, promoted to Director of Creative Services last year, received two national awards for her work as Graphic Designer at Williston State College. Made up of Marketing and PR professionals working at two-year colleges, the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) hosts both a district and national conference each year. The 2015 National NCMPR conference was held in Portland, Oregon, March 22-24th.
"National and district conferences are for professional development, resources, and recognition," Natalie Popko, Communication Specialist at WSC explained. "You are able to work with people in your areas to grow and see what people around the country had success with. It's a great opportunity to bring new approaches back to your college and be recognized for your hard work." Jenny Wolf, agreed, "The NCMPR conference is great for us, we are a small department in small college in a non-metropolitan area. So we don't have a lot of opportunities to network and learn from similar institutions. It gives us the chance to work with and compete with our peers."
Each fall, members of NCMPR are able to submit work (done in the previous year) for both district (Medallion Awards) and national (Paragon Awards) recognition. Categories range from TV Spots to College Brochures. Over the years, Wolf has been recognized for her work at WSC with three Medallion Awards and one Paragon Award. Previous awards include a bronze Medallion and Paragon for WSC's Class Schedule and silver Medallions for WSC's Catalog and the Teton Thunder, WSC's foundation Alumni magazine. Her husband, Matthew Nelson, Editor of the Teton Thunder, received bronze for his feature story on Kelly Maixner in WSC's award-winning magazine.
This year in Portland, WSC and Wolf took home a bronze Paragon Award for the Academic Catalog and her first silver Paragon for WSC's class schedule. "It's such an honor to be recognized on a national level. The catalog was a lot of work so it's really gratifying to see it win," Wolf stated. "Jenny was up against a lot of schools that had much larger enrollment and budgets than we had," Popko stated. "With nearly 600 colleges that make up NCMPR, being in the top three in two categories is impressive." Wolf concluded, "As a creative in a Williston you can feel a little isolated and under appreciated, this was a great validation for us at WSC and shows we are making a difference."
