WILLISTON, N.D. - The Well will be even livelier on February 2 and 6 when the Williston Middle School Pep Band, directed by Nicole Rumppe, brings its tunes to those men's and women's Teton basketball home games.
The 90 7th and 8th graders will be decked out in Teton t-shirts provided by WSC. The full band is expected to play both evening games with special appearances by Kyle Norris, WSC Music Instructor, a few of his students, and some community band members.
"The idea for Pep-Band-Palooza originated with Coach Hernandez and Chad Askim this past summer," stated Caitlin Pallai, Executive Assistant to the VP for Academic Affairs. "As soon as we knew Williston Middle School Band Director Nicole Rumppe and Dr. Miller were on board, we agreed it would be a great goal for not only our student musicians' use of their talent, but also a way to strengthen ties between our institutions and the Williston community."
Songs over the two nights include "Louie Louie," "Seven Nation Army," "Oye Como Va," "Mercy Mercy Mercy," "The Magnificent Seven," and "Star Wars."
"Our combined 7th and 8th grade bands have 6 flutes, 12 clarinets, 2 bass clarinets, 9 alto saxophones, 2 tenor saxophones, 4 bari saxophones, 3 french horns, 16 trumpets, 2 euphoniums, 7 trombones, 4 tubas, and 13 percussionists," stated Nicole Rumppe.
The rafters should be shaking for this Pep-Band-Palooza. Thursday, February 2, WSC women's and men's basketball teams face Dawson Community College and take on Lake Region State College on Monday, February 6. The women begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m. for both evenings.
